Collectors, parent company of PSA, is acquiring grader SCG. (article here)
"The deal brings even more of the TCG card grading market share to the doorstep of the PSA brand. According to GemRate's X posts, PSA had 76% of the overall TGC grading market share and the acquisition of SGC will add another 2% to that total. In comparison, CGC had 18% of the total market in 2023, and Beckett took 5% of that market. A total of 8 million TCG cards were graded in 2023. "
Cardboard box filled with unopened hockey cards sells for more than $3.7 million at auction. (article here)
“An unopened cardboard box filled with packs of hockey cards from 1979-1980 sold for a whopping $3.72 million at auction on Sunday, according to Heritage Auctions. There are 16 boxes of cards in the carton, each filled with 48 packs of O-Pee-Chee hockey cards, according to a news release from the auction house. Heritage Auctions said the box might contain two dozen Wayne Gretzky cards from his rookie years. Gretzky, known as one of hockey's all-time greats, played for the Edmonton Oilers at the time the cards were printed.”
PSA Announces New Blue Label For Authenticated Autographs (article here)
“PSA quietly announced a change to its labels on Thursday with a familiar format making a return. In a post to Twitter/X on Thursday, PSA President Ryan Hoge announced that the company would be introducing a new blue label in the coming months for cards that only had an autograph authenticated.”
Topps Releases Statement on Series 1 Baseball’s 'First Card' Printing Errors (article here)
“With much fanfare, the company announced that there would be a “First Card” 1/1 of every one of the base cards in the release. But when the boxes dropped, no one could find them. As more collectors began to complain directly to Topps about the missing “First Card” designation, they took a few days to take action. However, the Fanatics-owned company announced the mistake on its social media on February 27, 2024.”
$1 Million Bounty Set for Connor Bedard 1/1 Rookie Card (article here)
“Online trading card retailer Dave and Adam’s Card World has shaken up that chase, however, and is offering a $1 million bounty for Bedard’s Outburst Gold 1/1 rookie. Set to drop on March 6, many collectors would typically be buying Series 2 hoping to pull Bedard’s signature Young Guns rookie.”
